We’ve got less than 2 months until publication. We’ve had a cover reveal. It’s probably time I start talking more about my debut novel, Quarter-Love Crisis.
The book centres around Maddison Clarke, who has always lived by tick-lists, schedules, and five-year plans. So, she didn’t foresee being this close to thirty and still living at home, in an assistant role, with the closest thing to a committed relationship being her grocery delivery driver. But when she lands the opportunity to lead on the company’s biggest event to date, Maddison sees a chance to get her life back on track…
Around age 24/25 I saw a lot of my friends (and friends of friends) all go through the same, self-depreciating thought spiral. We were leaving the days of our fun and flirty “early twenties” behind and suddenly heading towards scarier numbers that felt a lot more “adult”. The problem? We didn’t feel like we were the adults we were meant to be.
The world has changed. Our individual lives change constantly. It would actually be more surprising if we had become the exact adult we thought we’d be when we were children, on the exact timeline. However, that doesn’t stop us feeling like failures. In fact, failure is a feeling Maddison confronts front and centre in this book.
This book explores the arbitrary deadlines we set ourselves and the madness we can drive ourselves to when we don’t feel like we are meeting them. And it does it through a spicy rivals-to-lovers workplace romance…
…There is just one problem: she needs to join forces with Aiden Edwards, her long-time rival and the infuriatingly handsome bane of her existence. Aiden and his casual arrogance and absolute lack of urgency test her at every turn, so when he promises to walk away if she can give up her notebooks and live spontaneously, Maddison agrees. . . even if the concept is entirely alien to her.
Aiden is the (annoyingly handsome) thorn in Maddison’s side. The pair have been adversaries since they were 8 years old, and Maddison thought she had seen the last of him… Until now.
My favourite thing about Aiden is that he’s actually a pretty okay guy when it really comes down to it. I personally love an enemies-to-lovers situation, but I struggle to get behind them when the man is terrible as an enemy. Aiden certainly has his issues (he is a man, after all), but ultimately, he’s there to do more good than harm. That good just so happens to lead Maddison into a bunch of shenanigans along the way.
I wanted to write a book that felt like a warm hug; that scooped you up and told you that you are enough. That life is already a cesspit of awfulness without us putting more undue pressure on ourselves. This book is about being freer – painting your path as you go and not letting the ideals you believe you “should” have guide you.
I really hope it resonates with someone else the way it resonated with me, helping me through what would have otherwise been a far more turbulent time of my life.
If you are interested in reading this book, it means more to me than you know if you pre-order it, rather than just buying it once it’s out. As a debut author, it can be hard to get people to believe in you and your journey, but having more pre-orders shows booksellers that people want your book and that it’s worth investing in.
You can pre-order it from most major retailers including Waterstones, Amazon, Foyles and bookshop.org. You can also type the title right into your Kindle or iBooks, and pre-order it right there too!
Quarter-Love Crisis will be out July 17th 2025!
Lots of love,
