It’s officially Autumn
The leaves are brown, the air is crisp and the sundresses are back to feeling useless. Though not quite winter, there is for sure a chill in the air, and every day you’re faced with the age-old dilemma of how to dress for the season. Should you bring a jacket? Is it going to rain? Is an umbrella enough? Will a thick winter coat leave you showing up at your destination as a pool of sweat? Well, fear not chickens, because here’s a post all about how to create some Autumn looks from someone who knows next to nothing about fashion!
Hacks to create Autumn looks
I’m not exactly what the kids would call “stylish”, nor do I own a million clothes. However, I like to believe that that makes me the best person to deliver a post like this because I know how to cheat your way around an Autumn look. I’ve linked what I can below. However, since I try and wear my clothes as much as possible and aren’t the biggest shopper in the world, some are pretty old. Therefore, in those cases I’ve linked similar or just linked the website.

1) When summer scoots, throw on some boots
I am 100% a summer girl at heart, but I have to admit that I love a good boot. The one thing that summer is missing is the weather that allows me to throw on a boot with an outfit. I’m quite short at 5″4 and I have complicated ankles, so I tend to gravitate towards shoes with heels. And, in my opinion, boots are the easiest and comfiest way to wear a heel. However, whether you want to heel them or not, boots give a real cute, put-together look to an Autumn outfit, whilst also keeping you warm and protecting you from the rain. You can’t beat a basic black boot for everyday wear but opt for a colourful pair like this red one from XY London* to make more of a statement.
2) When in doubt, plaid it out
If, like me, you want to introduce more prints and colour into your Autumn looks but get overwhelmed with it all, plaid is a great place to start. It’s always very in trend when Autumn rolls around, and it’s surprisingly easy to co-ordinate due to the multiple colours that tend to be involved. Branch out, throw on a checked shirt or jacket and look like you know how to branch out print-wise.

3) Wanna hack it? Wear a jacket
I will hold my hands up and admit that I am one of the first to grab my puffy coat. However, most of the time in Autumn, you can get away with the right jacket and an umbrella just in case. From someone who is as lazy as possible when it comes to fashion, I’ve found that the right leather jacket ties an outfit together, and makes you look far more professional than you feel. Additionally, I’ve become a real fan of the shirt jacket recently, for more casual but put together Autumn looks.
4) Look sharp as a razor in a coloured blazer
For ages, I couldn’t go near the whole blazer trend because they reminded me of sixth form and “smart casual” dress codes. However, now that I’m well past that and blazers seem to be getting cuter and more colourful, it’s time to get back on the blazer horse. Throw one on with a pair of jeans and go for something colourful or with a funky print to distance yourself from the business look. I particular love this mint green blazer from Next (Find similar from New Look because the next one isn’t available anymore) and this plaid one from Everything Five Pounds*.

These are cute! I love blazers, more of a summer thing for me because my body refuses to feel warm..ever. I’m such a boot person too, but I have size 2 feet so finding cute heeled ones is a challenge sometimes. I love the photos with the pumpkins too, you look so content! x

I’m absolutely loving your rhyming headings haha. Honestly the majority of the reason I love Autumn so much is because of boots, I just think they look so fab. I love chucking on a heeled boot because it always makes me feel so much more confident. I absolutely love that light green blazer, I definitely need to get a couple of colourful ones as I really love the look and it’s the perfect way to jazz up my work clothes a little more.
