So, we all know that the environment is a big concern at the moment and that we should all be doing our part in any way that we can. I don’t talk about it massively on social media because I’ve never been big on shouting things from the rooftop or pushing people into decisions… My blog is where I like to discuss serious things, so that’s what I’ve been planning to do.
The thing is, I’m a big believer in practicing what you preach. Therefore, I didn’t want to compile any environment-related posts until I knew I was making a difference in any ways that I could. Since June, I’ve been making a lot of small, but doable changes to my own lifestyle, and examining what works for me and what doesn’t… Trying to figure out ways in which I can help make a difference. Now that a few months have passed and I’ve really been able to test them out, I can finally release this new blog series of mine…
As I said, we all need to start making a difference, and there are many ways we can do this. However, as much as it is easy for people to give you a list of 100 things you should be doing straight away to shake up your life, it can be pretty overwhelming. I’m not going to tell anyone what to do, because I am not perfect, and there’s definitely still more I could be doing. But I am going to use this series to share manageable things I myself have been doing, or things that I believe are good first steps.
There will be home editions, travel editions, beauty editions, food editions and so forth; I will be compiling different ways you can make small changes in any of these aspects of life. Obvsiously, I’m not the final word on any of this, and none of it’s being said to pressure you into doing things. However, (In the least cheesy way possible), if we all start making small steps, then we end up making big ones together. First up:
This series is kindly being kicked off with a post sponsored by Seareach. They carried out a survey examining what things make office spaces greener, and also which of these play a part towards an improved office workspace. From this, they compiled a list of their “top tips” for a green office, I picked the ones that I figured were easy to implement and, of course, because I can’t stop myself, have had my own say on them.
Though it may not be possible to cut paper completely, I feel like most industries are heading in this direction. Honestly, if I had known that adult life would include more emails and computer note taking than actual paper, I would have tried less in my primary school handwriting lessons.
So, I have been an avid recycler since primary school. I was one of my schools “eco-warriors”, I made a recycling robot for a school competition, I used to fundraise for the Rainforest Foundation… I have always been that annoying kid that forced people to put things in the right bins. And yes, clearly labelling bins really does help.
I didn’t actually know this, but the use of LED lightbulbs can lead to a 75% saving compared to halogen lightbulbs. Not only is this great for the planet, but it will save the company on energy bills… So get your boss on it!
I have not one, but two reusable water bottles (Mainly because I was gifted a Lion King one at a launch) and I would recommend. The metal ones are cute and also keep your water super cold and save on single use plastic.
Apparently simply having a bike rack at an office encourages far more people to cycle to work rather than take public transport. So, if your office doesn’t have one, it may be worth bringing it up with someone.
This one is less of an environment one, and more of a performance one, but still green. Having plants in offices aesthetically softens work areas with boring colours, making it a more pleasant environment.
Like I said earlier, none of us are perfect. I know that I’m not the most environmentally perfect person in the world – in fact, I am very far from it. However, it is better to start small than to do nothing, and if you can swap out small things, like taking a reusable bottle to work instead of buying single-use, then you are well on your way to making a difference.
Let me know what you think of this new series, got a few posts coming your way in the coming months!
Lots of love,
Jas xx
Save trees, pin my pin (It’s logical, don’t think about it too much).

These are awesome tips Jas! ??? The LED bulbs make the biggest difference in a room, really keeps the temperature down so the room doesn’t feel too hot, which means you don’t have to crank the AC up?
